Hi Everyone!
Im Kevin Kantola and I approve this message - again!
Well, I
hope everyone is recovering from PESS - post-election stress
syndrome. Good thing election isnt spelled with an
"t". Now on
to the important stuff!
Heres some Q &A to get us started.
Hi Kevin,
On one page of my website I have a number of links going
to the
same page as I really want my visitors to go to this page.
How
many links going to the same page is too much?
-Barm
Hi Barm,
There are many ways in which you can sp@m your own website
and
link sp@mming is just one of them. As a rule of thumb, I
recommend only 1 2 links to the same page from any html
page.
On rare occasions, Ive seen 3 links to the same page
work, but
I would only do this once on your entire website.
Hey Kevin,
I have a new site. How do I trade links with other sites
when
mine doesnt have any PageRank yet?
-Manny
Hey Manny,
This is the Catch-22 that all new websites face. Many Webmasters
will not want to trade links with you unless your site has
some
PageRank and you cannot get PageRank without other websites
linking to your site.
The good news is that some Webmasters will trade links with
you
if you have a well-designed website with lots of content and
you
explain to them that you have a new site which will have some
PR
after the next Google update.
Also, you can submit your site to some free directories and
participate on the message boards and put your websites
link in
the signature. Once you achieve some PR, it will be much easier
to trade links in the future.

News
Google has acquired Keyhole, a company that has developed
satellite imagery of the entire planet. World domination marches
on.
A Virginia man was convicted and sentenced to 9 years in
prison
for sending out millions of sp@m email to AOL users. SP@M
does
pay, though, since he amassed a fortune of $24 million through
these practices.
Yahoo! Image Search has now been updated and states that
its
database contains over 1 billion images.
AskJeeves has doubled its profits from last year. They indicate
that this is primarily due to making their searches more
personal. Personal search is indeed starting to come of age.
Is the Yahoo! Directory worth submitting to? This is a question
that comes up all the time. The answer is a definite
maybe.
How do you retain traffic and search engine rankings after
a
website redesign? This is another often asked question. The
simple answer is that most likely the website will make a
temporary drop in the search engine rankings as the SEs
are
trying to figure out how to re-index the new site.
If done
correctly, however, this is only a temporary situation.
On this past Wednesday, Googles stock briefly passed
the $200
per share mark. Today it is sitting in the mid $180s.
Tip of the Week
If your website already has a links or resources page, consider
placing some one-way links to authority sites that your visitors
will find useful.
This will be good for your visitors and your site will get
a
small boost in the search engine rankings.
If you have questions, send them in. Remember, not to ask
for
free website critiques, but if you have general questions
to
share, by all means email them in!
